WHY
SUNBURY? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Our story begins in 1982.
Our
current generation sometimes forgets that the Ohio settlers
were a distinctive breed of men and women – brave,
courageous, resourceful, and self-reliant. They were hardy
souls who left security, comfort and safety behind them
because they wanted more of the American dream for themselves
and their families. When something didn’t work, our
ancestors devoted their energies to another project in search
of a better way of life. They were the very definition of
“grass roots.”
An
old road can tell many stories of our history. The old Sunbury-Galena
Road was first the Walhonding Indian Trail that evolved
into a rough wagon trace for early settlers that eventually
saw the first creaking and lumbering stagecoaches establish
the stagecoach era in our still-young country, lasting from
1820 to 1873. The first route, from Columbus to Mt. Vernon,
continued up the Old Sunbury Road through Galena and Sunbury.
Over
a century later, in 1982, that same Sunbury Road, still
scenic and rustic, but now paved for modern motorized traffic,
sat an old, stately brick house, which was once a welcome
stagecoach stop for weary travelers in the 19th. century.
Converted into an 8-track recording studio, the upper floor
of this house became the welcome home of the founder of
Sunbury Entertainment. Welcome, because he had become virtually
homeless after experiencing the loss of a professional comedy
club business in Columbus and Cincinnati.
There must have been an enduring spirit of those early “gumption-filled”
forefathers in the walls and foundation of that old converted
stagecoach stop. The inspiration to embody that same brevity,
courage, resourcefulness and self-reliance of those early
stagecoach riders and drivers undeniably compelled the founder
of Sunbury Entertainment to adapt that philosophy of life
that has made America great. Sunbury Entertainment is now
a glowing example of the “bootstrap” philosophy
in the promotion of the “American dream.”
It has brought the joy of music and entertainment
to thousands of individuals for over two decades now with
quality, integrity, perseverance and the promise to always
satisfy their clients in every way.
At Sunbury Entertainment, our credo is somewhat summed up
in the words of our 28th. President, Woodrow Wilson, when
he said …."You are not here merely to
make a living. You are here in order to enable the world
to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit
of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world,
and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand."
We intend to remain true to our task of making the world
richer through the provision of our exceptionally gifted
artists.
Why Sunbury? It’s the constant reminder for us and
our clients of the spirit that sustains us and keeps us
working for you and your entertainment satisfaction deep
into the 21st. century. We appreciate your business.
